The PTD Academy Europe offers 4 different courses:

  • One-day course Introduction and Analysis:  255,=
  • Five-day course Theory and Practice:     1.635,=
  • Three-day course Theory: € 770,=

One-day course “Introduction and Analysis”

The one-day course consists of an introduction into knowledge and technology used with Precision Touch Design and teaches the students through practice to make a quick analysis of a grand piano action.

The quick analysis method makes it possible to map the functioning of the action at the client's home. Subsequently you will be able to give targeted advice for the improvement of the action.

Students who join the PTDAE may call themselves PTD-Agent.

Participation: This course is designed for Piano Tuners who themselves do not repair and recondition.

Participants: 6 Minimal

Costs: 255,= p.p. Including lunch and a workbook.

Location: Oude Tonge or Nieuw Weerdinge (the Netherlands).

The one-day course is held in the Netherlands once a year!

Other locations in Europe may be possible in agreement.

Three-day course “Theory”

During the three-day course the theory of Precision Touch Design is treated and all the techniques to be used are shown.

The trainers show the whole process of analysis, designs and installation of a PTDesign by using an action of one of the students.

After this course students have the stock-in-trade to install a PTD, but have not learned to put the techniques into practice.

Students who join the PTDAE may call themselves PTD-Technician.

A PTD-Technician can become a PTD-Installer by installing at least 2 PTD's and have one of them assessed by the PTDAE.

Participation: This course is designed for the experienced Piano Technician. Knowledge and experience of adjusting and voicing grand piano actions is required.

Participants: 6 Minimal

Costs: 770,= p.p. Including lunch and a workbook.

Location: Oude Tonge or Nieuw Weerdinge (the Netherlands).

The three-day course is held in the Netherlands once a year!

Other locations in Europe may be possible in agreement.

Three-day follow-up course “Practice”

During the three-day follow-up course the practice of Precision Touch Design is treated and all the techniques to be used are practised. All students bring along a grand piano action to the course. Each action is to be analysed, a PTD is to be designed and worked on. After three days a new transmission ratio has been applied (if necessary) and all test keys have been provided with calibrated hammer weight and a calibrated leadweighting of the keys. The action is to be finished in one's own workshop.

Students who join the PTDAE may call themselves PTD-Installer.

Participation: one can only register for this course when having done the three-day Theory course.

Participants: 6 Minimal

Costs: 870,= Including lunches, a PTDesign for the action brought along and a workbook.

Location: Oude Tonge or Nieuw Weerdinge (the Netherlands).

Other locations in Europe may be possible in agreement.

Five-day course “Theory and Practice”

During the five-day course the theory is discussed and and all the techniques to be used are trained. All students bring along a grand piano action to the course. Each action is to be analysed, a PTD is to be designed and worked on. At the end of the week a new transmission ratio has been applied (if necessary) and all test keys have been provided with calibrated hammer weight and a calibrated leadweighting of the keys. The action is to be finished   in one's own workshop.

This course is the 'classic' training to become a PTD-Installer. Especially in America and in the Netherlands already a great many colleagues have followed this route. The success of this format is the combination of learning, training and productive working.

Trainers

The PTDAE trainers are Frans Pietjouw and Wim Feldhaus.

Both are qualified piano technicians who have worked for over 20 years as tuners and at their workshop. Due to discontent with the end result of work done on grand piano actions (in particular the replacement of hammer heads), they found themselves with David Stanwood and learned the PTD techniques from him early 2000. They have been with the inventor in America several times and are continuously coached by him even now.

The enthusiasme for Precision Touch Design is mainly fueled by customers, piano players, finding their grand piano to be playing and sounding surprisingly fine and lovely. And that is what it is all about in the end!
